ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delaware Health Insurance Marketplace rates will rise up to 35% after federal budget cuts and the end of premium tax credits, affecting nearly 50,000 residents. Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro warned that these higher costs may lead more people to go without coverage — a challenge as the state works to keep health care affordable.  Delaware Public Media
  • Delmarva Power launched its Delaware Customer Relief Fund to help customers with high energy bills by offering up to $300 in bill credits on a first-come, first-served basis. The fund was supported by a $4.5 million contribution from Exelon and requires customers to join the Energize Delaware Home Energy Checkup and Counseling program (to confirm eligibility).  Delaware Public Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Back-to-school activity began this week in New Castle County as kindergarten students at Pleasantville Elementary were greeted by a high school mascot on Monday, August 25 and full classes started on Tuesday, August 26 in Colonial, Brandywine and Red Clay districts. Appoquinimink and Christina will welcome students starting Tuesday, September 2 and Wednesday, September 3—drivers are urged to use caution near school zones.  WDEL

FINANCE NEWS

  • The next Powerball drawing is today at 10:59 p.m. ET with an $815 million jackpot and a cash value of $367.9 million—tickets in Delaware must be purchased by 9:45 p.m. ET.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware State Police and partnering agencies launched the Blue Envelope Program today to support drivers with disabilities—by giving a small envelope with a driver’s license, registration, insurance, medical information, and tips that help officers understand the driver’s needs—and ease stress during traffic stops.  WDEL

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • In Delaware Food Truck Frenzy, 17 trucks remain in the contest after a tie in Round 6—readers will vote for their favorite from Aug. 26 to Aug. 31. The tournament, which began on July 15, features a mix of cuisines from seafood to gourmet pizza as chefs compete for the golden spatula.  Delaware Online
