CRIME NEWS

  • The New Castle County Division of Police issued a Gold Alert for 15-year-old Nathanael Lewis, who was last seen at 3:00 p.m. on April 20 in the 100 block of East Greenbank Road in Wilmington wearing gray sweatpants and a black t-shirt and described as a Hispanic Black male with curly hair and a slim build who may be headed toward Elsmere; anyone with information is urged to call (302) 573-2800.  New Castle County Police Department

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNREC is updating the Delaware Wildlife Action Plan for 2025-2035 with input from federal, state, and non-government partners to protect local species and habitats. The plan will use 10 years of data to update conservation actions and will include public sessions in late July and early August.  Deleware State Government
  • Delaware State Parks has released a guide that details 17 park locations, including parking fees, operating hours, and amenities for inland and ocean parks—this guide helps visitors plan picnics, hikes, and wildlife watching with pass options for different vehicles.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington and New Castle County are asking the state to let them add local sales taxes on recreational marijuana—up to 3% in Wilmington and 5% in New Castle County—to boost local revenue, while Wilmington will vote on zoning rules that keep marijuana shops away from schools and homes. The proposals come as regulatory delays push back the opening dates of cannabis retailers.  Spotlight Delaware
  • Governor Matt Meyer ordered that flags at state-owned buildings will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Saturday, April 26 for the passing of Pope Francis—he said the gesture honors the late leader’s work for those in need.  Deleware State Government
  • Today, Governor Matt Meyer nominated Jameson Tweedie as Public Advocate for Delaware (an environmental lawyer with strong state experience) and he awaits Senate confirmation (to fight unfair utility rate hikes and boost energy affordability).  Deleware State Government
  • A state representative was removed from the powerful Joint Finance Committee after pleading guilty to DUI and 3rd Degree Vehicular Assault following a November 9 crash that injured another driver — Rep. Charles Postles will replace him as the committee works to finalize the state budget.  WDEL
