  • After a Saturday drawing on Dec. 20 yielded no grand prize win, Monday, Dec. 22's Powerball drawing raised the jackpot to $1.6 billion—fourth-largest in history—with lower-tier prizes awarded; in Delaware, ticket sales closed at 9:45 p.m. ET on drawing days.  Delaware Online
  • Christiana Mall now offers paid parking with select spots charging around the clock and 10% of fees going to the Brandywine Valley SPCA. Delaware launched an Animal Abuse Offender Database and AAA reported 356,000 travelers amid low gas prices, while a mystery donor cleared layaway balances at a Burlington store.  DETV
  • Coleman Christmas Tree Farm in Middletown, Delaware keeps a multi-generation tradition by nurturing transplants for about eight years until each tree is ready for sale. The farm offers hayrides, Santa visits, and seasonal activities that bring families together.  WDEL

  • Delaware Community Foundation announced on Dec. 15 that its scholarship application period for the 2026-2027 school year is now open in Dover.  Bay to Bay News

  • DNREC announced registration details for its largest biennial Delaware Wetlands Conference set for Jan. 27-28 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. Attendees can register at regular pricing until Dec. 28 and later sign up until Jan. 21 for networking, presentations, speakers, and field trips.  Deleware State Government

FINANCE NEWS

  • The Powerball drawing (Monday, Dec. 22, 10:59 p.m. ET) came after no grand prize winner on Dec. 20 and left the jackpot at $1.6 billion, marking the fourth-largest jackpot in game history. Ticket sales in Delaware ended at 9:45 p.m. on drawing day.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware law requires property owners and occupants to clear public sidewalks within 24 hours after a snow or ice storm — fines range from $25 in Wilmington to $300 per day in Newark, and they must also keep walkways clear for neighbors with mobility needs.  Delaware Online
  • Delmarva Power proposed a new tariff on customers using over 25 megawatts to protect residents from rate hikes as studies on large projects take place. The Public Service Commission has paused major grid interconnections, including data centers in Newark and Delaware City, pending further review.  Delaware Online
  • The Delaware Office of Highway Safety will offer $20 ride-share vouchers for Uber or Lyft on New Year’s Eve to help ensure safe celebrations; voucher claims open Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 3:00 p.m. with rides valid until 3:00 a.m. Thursday.  Deleware State Government
  • A petition calling for humanitarian parole for disabled Delawarean Victor Acurio Suarez was launched on Dec. 22 to secure his release and proper care. Gov. Meyer and affiliated groups backed the effort before his next court date next month — the petition has already gathered over 750 signatures.  Delaware Online
  • Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced today a nearly $150 million settlement with Mercedes-Benz USA and Daimler AG for using illegal emissions defeat devices, with Delaware set to receive $3.6 million and a consumer relief program mandated for about 39,565 affected vehicles.  Deleware State Government
