CULTURE NEWS

  • Photographer Benjamin Chambers of the Delaware News Journal has released a photo collection showcasing Delaware in 2025. The images capture high school sports, art tours, and local events (all reflecting a vibrant local scene).  Delaware Online
  • A musical adaptation of Miracle on 34th Street, starring Wesley Scott as Kris Kringle + featuring Broadway style tunes by Meredith Wilson, begins its run today at the Playhouse on Rodney Square and will continue tomorrow.  6abc

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Unemployment claims in Delaware fell last week as new claims for the week ending Dec. 13 dropped to 362 from 492, while nationwide claims decreased from 237,000 to 224,000, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Jerome Lewis, who founded UD's Institute for Public Administration over 50 years ago, died on Dec. 13, leaving a legacy of mentoring thousands and shaping public service in Delaware that is celebrated by his colleagues at the Biden School.  University of Delaware
  • The Delaware Department of Education placed Georgetown’s Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence under formal review again because of enrollment, financial and organizational concerns (staffing and budget issues), with an initial meeting set for Jan. 12 and a decision expected by March 19.  Delaware Online
  • UD’s Center for Composite Materials celebrated its 50th anniversary on Friday, Dec. 19 when it hosted the 24th International Conference on Composite Materials at its state-of-the-art facility. Director Srikanth Pilla highlighted the center’s legacy from hockey sticks to jetliners and its future plans to integrate artificial intelligence for faster, smarter composite design.  University of Delaware

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware City Refinery experienced over 30 pollution events this year, including a Dec. 14 incident that released about 1,000 pounds of sulfur dioxide — state regulators now require fenceline sensors to monitor further risks.  Delaware Online

  • After no grand prize winner on Dec. 17, the Powerball jackpot has risen to $1.5B; Delaware players can buy tickets until 9:45 p.m. with the drawing set for today at 10:59 p.m. ET.  Delaware Online

  • New Castle County Board of Adjustment voted on Dec. 18 on repurposing the historic Inn at Montchanin as a neuro-rehab center — officials said the vote will determine the building’s future role in the community.  Delaware Online

  • Sanford beat Delaware Military Academy 57-11 on Dec. 19 in Wilmington, with players like Honour Dunkley + Kha'Nihya Johnson leading the win.  Delaware Online
  • Primo Maschio (19-time winner) completed a series sweep Friday under the guidance of Walter Callahan and reached career earnings of $414,618 from 27 starts.  Deleware State Government
  • Henry Hahn of Archmere wrestling won Delaware Online High School Sports Athlete of the Week for Week 2 (4-0 record against Newark Charter, St. Elizabeth, Tatnall, and Wilmington Friends), with online fan voting running Monday through Thursday.  Delaware Online
