COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Boulden Brothers partnered with Draper Media-owned stations for the Christmas for Kids Toy Drive, which concluded on Dec. 10 with hundreds of donated toys, games & stuffed animals delivered to Sunday Breakfast Mission and Carrcroft Elementary School.  WDEL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rodney Square lit up with festive lights, music and cheer when visitors and performers attended Light Up the Square on Dec. 9. The holiday celebration brought community members together for a season of festivities.  Delaware Online

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delmarva Power proposed customer programs to help Delaware users save $60 to $100 on energy bills by shifting usage during peak times and a rate review to fund grid upgrades while offering a 20% delivery discount for low-income households; both proposals are under review by the Public Service Commission.  WDEL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wilmington’s school district plans may take one of three shapes as officials prepare proposals for a vote in December (details pending).  Delaware Online
  • Renowned ocean explorers Tim Taylor and Christine Dennison donated the OTIS remotely operated vehicle to UD on December 10. The tool (previously showcased at Coast Day) will help train future underwater researchers and attract new research partnerships in Lewes.  University of Delaware
  • The Redding Consortium for Educational Equity will vote at Delaware Tech (Orlando George Jr. Campus) on Tuesday, Dec. 16, to recommend removing part of the Christina School District from Wilmington, affecting about 1,600 city students. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Artesian Water Co. will credit customers about $73 on December bills from its $7.2 million share of a 3M PFAS settlement while it awaits final state regulator approval for a permanent rate increase (public comments accepted until Jan. 9, 2026).  Delaware Online
  • Attorney General Kathy Jennings explained how consumers can receive money from a $700M settlement with Google; starting Dec. 2, automatic payments will reach affected Google Play Store users if the court approves the settlement on Apr. 30 – those opting out or needing account updates must act by Feb. 19.  Deleware State Government
  • Delaware Capitol Police is expanding its Facility Dog Program to courthouses in Kent and Sussex counties after Vinn (the first facility dog) served for three years at the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington, easing stress in court cases. The program pairs trained dogs with handlers to comfort those in need.  Deleware State Government
  • The Delaware State Housing Authority launched its Downtown Development Districts Rebate Program for 2026 today, building on $39.2 million in rebates that since 2014 spurred over $574 million in private investment across 12 areas — a model for future local growth.  Bay to Bay News

  • Brandywine School District football head coach (Isaiah Mays) was suspended two games after his team tore grass from Concord's field on November 8, with the sanction including one-year probation and a required sportsmanship course to address DIAA rule violations.  WDEL
