CULTURE NEWS

  • Various Christmas concerts are scheduled across the region between Dec. 13 and Dec. 23. Audiences can attend Handel’s Messiah in Lewes, Matteo Bocelli’s show in Wilmington, and festive performances in Milton (tickets range from $10–$99) with some events free (registration advised).  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Delaware Board of Trustees has named Laura A. Carlson the 29th president, with her term set to begin Jan. 1, 2026. Her appointment followed a thorough review and campus input — she has served as interim president since July.  University of Delaware
  • Parents, educators, and community members gathered at Mt. Pleasant Elementary on December 8 to discuss three redistricting options proposed by the Redding Consortium for Educational Equity; school board leaders stressed that enrolled students will remain at their schools regardless of any changes.   • Chase warns local residents to guard against online scams amid the busy holiday season, noting nearly one in three shoppers fell victim nationwide and Delawareans lost over $16.8 million last year. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware law prohibits pets—including emotional support animals—from entering grocery stores unless they are task-trained service dogs. Updated in 2018, the rule aligns state and federal regulations to maintain food safety in these establishments.  Delaware Online

  • Delaware senators Chris Coons, Lisa Blunt Rochester, and Rep. Sarah McBride attended the ribbon-cutting of Beebe Healthcare's extended mobile health clinic in Rehoboth Beach today to celebrate securing over $3 million in federal funding.
