  • Child placing agencies in Delaware and New Jersey urged community members to consider fostering kids amid a shortage of licensed homes. Wilmington events provided resources for those interested as many children risk aging out without a permanent home.  WHYY

  • Capital One has committed $2.3 million to the Delaware Funding Access Initiative to help small businesses access affordable capital statewide. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Delaware Division of the Arts has launched its online application process for Fiscal Year 2027 grants to support arts & community programs from Sept. 2026 to Aug. 2027. Applicants must submit through the smARTDE system by Monday, Mar. 2 at 4:30 p.m. EST.  Deleware State Government
  • Renita Coursey’s solo exhibition The Garden is now on view at Mezzanine Gallery, displaying beadwork and ribbon skirts that blend Nanticoke tradition with modern design.   • University of Delaware child development experts advise parents to choose open-ended play materials—like recycled boxes and art supplies—to boost imaginative play this holiday season and reduce screen time.   • For the Record highlights UD faculty and staff achievements with appointments, invited talks, media interviews, and awards. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Castle County installed new electric vehicle chargers at Delcastle Park on Wednesday as part of its '100 EV Plugs Plan' using federal funds. State officials implemented annual fees for EV + hybrid owners to support road maintenance as the project expands.  First State Update
  • The Delaware State Housing Authority announced that the Downtown Development Districts Rebate Program is accepting 2026 applications in 12 designated districts. Qualified investors must invest over $350,000 in eligible projects — applications are due by 3 p.m. on February 26.  Deleware State Government

HEALTH NEWS

  • UD researchers developed a reversible conductive hydrogel that flows as a liquid and solidifies as a gel at 35°C, offering promise for injectable bioelectronic sensors. The material, tested on a human forearm (reporting 250 times better signals than commercial electrodes), is detailed in Nature Communications.  University of Delaware
