BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pretty Eddie’s, a new corner market on Market Street in Wilmington operated by BPG, will open with full shelves on December 10 to meet residents’ long-held need for a grocer—featuring a deli counter and rotisserie chicken.   • Buccini Pollin will open Pretty Eddie’s on Market Street to give downtown residents a place to buy food basics— and more. The new grocer will serve local needs and offer a center city option for essential groceries.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brian Jordan, a 45-year-old dad from Brandywine School District, ran a tough school board race on November 5 to protect local education and received free help from First State Educate. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington will receive nearly $2 million in federal funds to lower PFAS in its drinking water.   • Foster care in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania aims to keep children safe by requiring interested foster parents to meet state-specific rules—Delaware requires a three-hour info session while all states mandate background checks, training, and offer financial help.   • State lawmakers held the fourth hearing on Delaware’s first statewide property reassessment in nearly 40 years that impacted small businesses and housing leaders.   • Delaware State Parks will begin selling 2026 park passes and surf fishing permits on Dec. 9 for access to its 17 parks, including Trap Pond in Laurel and coastal areas—daily entrance fees will start on March 1. HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the Delaware Division of Public Health announced that clinics in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties are offering vaccines for flu, RSV, pneumonia, COVID-19, measles and pertussis for everyone six months and older—clinics in Newark, Wilmington, Dover, Milford, Seaford, Frankford and Georgetown are open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and accept both appointments and walk-ins.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware is working to support its rural hospitals as Medicaid cuts threaten vital services and more residents risk losing coverage—Gov. Matt Meyer said the state has applied for up to $1 billion from a $50 billion fund to boost health care with new projects including a medical school and mobile unit.  WHYY

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Delaware now offers many ways to ring in 2026 for both adults and families—ranging from music shows at local bars to bowling parties and special events at zoos. Many events on Dec. 31 require early registration as tickets may sell out.  Delaware Online

  • Today, Delaware high school basketball begins with 10 boys games and 7 girls games scheduled around the state—most games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On November 3, 61 teams gathered at Chase Fieldhouse for Delaware Online High School Basketball Media Day—players and coaches posed for photos and videos while sponsors like Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists and BPG Sports supported the event.  Delaware Online
  • Eleven student athletes were named Delaware Online Athlete of the Week by public vote for the fall sports season—each beating four nominees in competitions that featured wins in sports like cross-country, soccer, and volleyball.
