COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Society of St. Andrew-Delmarva is using gleaning—an old biblical practice—to rescue surplus produce and help feed hungry people. Founded as a faith-based mission in Virginia, the organization continues to address food insecurity in the region.  Bay to Bay News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After an Oct.20 forecast predicted a $400 million budget deficit over the next three years, the General Assembly decoupled Delaware's tax code from federal law—officials acted quickly in response to fiscal concerns. A tax expert said the change was shortsighted—she believes it may not fix state finances in the long run.  Bay to Bay News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thanksgiving saw the return of the Gift of Lights holiday light show at Dover Motor Speedway, which will run nightly until January 4 and feature discount nights including Military Monday for $5 off per car, today’s Pajama Night on December 1, Pet Night on December 3, and Christmas Sweater Night on December 10 + canned goods donations to the Food Bank of Delaware. The show is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with extended hours from December 21 through 28.  Delaware Public Media
  • December will bring many festive events in Delaware—Bruce Hornsby will headline a concert at The Grand on Dec. 5 with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra followed by an after party at The Hotel Du Pont—and shows like various 'Nutcracker' dance productions and a 'Home Alone' movie screening will offer holiday fun across local venues.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware Theatre Company will present Shrek the Musical in Wilmington from December 3 to 21—showing a heartwarming and funny tale of the green ogre who finds friendship and helps rescue Princess Fiona. Actor Cullen Hussey plays Shrek as the production brings together humor, music, and a message of self-acceptance for audiences this holiday season.  6abc

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware along with Pennsylvania and New Jersey will protect ratepayers during winter with a moratorium that keeps heat and lights on if bills fall behind—customers should reach out to utilities for payment plans and assistance when needed.  WHYY
  • PATCO will change its weekday night schedule today to match ridership needs—trains run every 15 minutes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and every 20 minutes from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.—while the overnight service stays suspended as part of a six-month pilot.  WHYY

  • Sports fans can cast a free vote online for the best high school girls basketball player in Delaware for the 2025 season, presented by Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists. The winner will be announced on Dec. 5.  Delaware Online
