  • A 40-year tradition returns to historic Newtown on December 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a special house tour will feature nine private homes & The Gillis Grier Bed & Breakfast, four churches & the Parsons Assisted Living Facility, with Poplar Hill Mansion also opening its doors to visitors.  Bay to Bay News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On November 28, 2025, shoppers filled Christiana Mall and Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach seeking holiday deals—crowds were large and lines were long. The event marked a busy start to the holiday season.  Delaware Online

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Delaware dropped last week, falling to 368 during the week ending Nov. 21 from 585 the week before—data from the U.S. Labor Department showed. Overall U.S. jobless claims decreased by 6,000 to 216,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.  Delaware Online

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The EPA proposed changes on November 17 that would narrow federal protections for wetlands—leaving Delaware’s freshwater areas, which cover about 75,000 acres and are often on private land, at risk from development. Lawmakers and environmental experts warned that these shifts could increase flooding and harm endangered species.  WHYY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Castle County is testing a pay for success maternal support program that pairs first-time mothers with nurses for home visits — more than 90 Medicaid-eligible mothers are enrolled out of a goal of 120. The program received $3 million from the du Pont family Longwood Foundation and will use government reimbursements based on positive results until winter.  Spotlight Delaware

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Delaware residents can enjoy free or inexpensive winter activities—holiday lights at the Christina Riverwalk in Wilmington run through Jan. 4, and sledding hills at Rockwood Park and Rockford Park offer outdoor fun. The community also hosts holiday parades, including the Wilmington Jaycees Christmas Parade at 11 a.m. today and additional events on Dec. 1 and Dec. 6.  Delaware Online

SPORTS NEWS

  • After scoring on its first four drives, Middletown won the 2025 DIAA Class 3A Football Championship, beating Salesianum 28–14. The Cavaliers used key offensive plays and strong defensive stops—limiting Salesianum's chances—to earn their ninth title.  WDEL
  • Red Lion Christian senior Evan Budinger passed for 267 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-40 overtime win against Howard in the Class 2A semifinals—he won an online vote over five nominees to be named the Delaware Online Football Athlete of the Week.  Delaware Online
