  • John Eleutheriou of Haldas Market hired Archie Bethard after he built work skills through the Sunday Breakfast Mission, and Rev. Tom Laymon said the work therapy program helps 75—80% of participants secure long-term jobs. Kat Carmona is also studying for her GED and working to support her young family with new career opportunities.  WDEL
  • DART’s 28th annual statewide Stuff the Bus Food Drive collected over 22,000 pounds of food during the first week of November, beating its goal of 15,000 pounds. The extra food served the Food Bank of Delaware—which distributed items to over 2,200 vehicles at Delaware Park Casino on November 17 and will support a drive-thru pantry on Friday in Georgetown—and the bank is a beneficiary of WDEL’s Feed-A-Friend radiothon today from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  WDEL

  • On November 18th, the Michelin guide recognized 34 Philadelphia restaurants with one-star and Bib Gourmand ratings while Angelo's opened a new branch in Wilmington's DE.CO Food Hall this past October — the awards honored top dining quality and great value.  Delaware Online

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA forecast predicts 217,734 Delawareans will travel for Thanksgiving, nearly 2% more than last year, with most taking vehicles—travelers are advised to plan ahead to avoid heavy road traffic during peak times.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Residents raised concerns at two virtual town halls about planned school district consolidation in New Castle County, focusing on issues like differing teacher salaries and school choice impacts—these sessions were held to guide future changes in Wilmington. The Redding Consortium is now accepting public comments ahead of a December 16 vote that will determine how schools are organized.  WDEL
  • Seventy-five years ago five Black students enrolled at Salesianum School in Wilmington, making it Delaware’s first integrated Catholic high school — they are honored today with a commemorative plaque and retired number 5 from athletic uniforms. The school announced a $20 million gift to build a new Arts and Innovation Center that will support its legacy of faith, service and justice.  Delaware LIVE
  • Anne Connelly, a senior in food science, works as a dairy intern at UDairy Creamery and studied food safety in classes and during a study abroad program in Italy.   • The Delaware Office of Highway Safety launched its annual holiday road safety campaign yesterday—using Sober Rides vouchers and Safe Holiday Travels events to help prevent crashes during busy travel times—and the program will offer up to $20 ride-share discounts on Thanksgiving Eve and New Year's Eve while street teams spread driver safety tips until New Year's Day.  Deleware State Government
