COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Since 1992, DNREC's Hunters Against Hunger program has given over 300 tons of venison to families in need—delivered by local hunters through county coolers. During the 2024-2025 season, 26,372 pounds of meat from 809 deer was donated to 25 local nonprofits—helping provide millions of meals.  Delaware Online
  • The Food Bank of Delaware in Newark saw a 93% increase in visitors on Nov 3 due to a government shutdown and SNAP cuts, and it still needs baby items, peanut butter, jelly, and traditional Thanksgiving foods for families in need. Wilmington’s Sunday Breakfast Mission said its food drive for 1500 families is 50% behind target + New Castle County will hold Thanksgiving of Hope on Nov 25 at the Hope Center to serve meals and deliver care packages.  Delaware Online

  • Ivan Thomas spoke with Chris Buccini—co-founder and co-president of Buccini/Pollin Group—about how his work spurred Wilmington’s downtown revival and what leadership and innovation mean for local growth.   • On Thanksgiving, November 27, major retailers such as Target and Walmart will be closed while many grocery chains like Albertsons and ShopRite open early and CVS will operate on limited hours. Black Friday deals will begin on November 28, so Delaware shoppers should call ahead for updated store hours — warehouse clubs like BJ’s, Costco, and Sam’s Club will also be closed.  Delaware Online

  • On Monday evening, Andrew Lloyd Webber appeared at the Delaware Art Museum to discuss his vast Pre-Raphaelite art collection with curator Sophie Lynford—he also connected his passion for Victorian art to Taylor Swift’s album cover referencing Ophelia.  WHYY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delaware shoppers tried making a Thanksgiving dinner for four with a $20 SNAP budget, but many low-cost items sold out and SNAP rules limited their choices—experts note that advertised deals rarely reflect in-store availability. The challenge shows that while influencers promote low-priced holiday meals, families may need to seek extra help from local food supports during high-price seasons.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Veterans Memorial Park in New Castle, a renovated Wall of Remembrance was unveiled before the Veterans Day service and honored over 16,000 service members from Delaware and New Jersey who fought from World War II to recent conflicts. The $5 million project expanded the wall to include names from wars after the Korean War and added a flagpole for the U.S. Space Force+ the Delaware River and Bay Authority led the work.  Delaware Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • University of Delaware chemical engineer Catherine Fromen is working on a new method that trains lung macrophage cells to better fight cancer — a technique that may lead to more effective treatments. As an Innovation Ambassador, she has secured four pending patents and built partnerships to help move her discovery toward patient use.  University of Delaware

  • A county judge ruled on Nov. 3 that the reason used to delay the warehouse plan was not valid, giving Dermody Properties a major win for its plan to build a large warehouse complex near Middletown. Officials must meet by Nov. 18 to enforce the ruling — further appeals remain pending — as the project may finally move forward.  Spotlight Delaware
