- ➤ The YMCA of Delaware has launched its annual food & winter clothing drive to help local households amid changes in federal funding. Donations of canned goods, nonperishables, coats, hats, scarves and gloves may be dropped off at any YMCA location from November 3rd to November 21st. WDEL
- ➤ Today, the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of the Northeast hosts Unity Saturdays at 77 McCullough Drive near New Castle to collect non-perishable food, bottled water, and hygiene items for hurricane relief in Jamaica — local groups like the West Indian Cricket Team and the Jamaican Heritage and Reggae Museum will join from 9:00 a.m. to noon. - ➤ The Foster Grandparents program mentors young children in local public schools and Head Start centers every weekday, teaching important life lessons from older adults — a bond that helps both generations learn and grow. - ➤ Hillel broke ground on an 18,000‐square‐foot Kristol Center for Jewish Life to replace its 5,000‐square‐foot space that no longer meets the needs of the growing UD Jewish student community; the center—featuring study rooms, lounges, a kosher kitchen, and an event hall for 250 students—will use a temporary facility on Main Street during demolition that begins soon and construction set to finish by spring. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, October 30, the New Castle County Department of Public Safety honored police officers, paramedics and 9-1-1 communicators and recognized 18-year-old Peyton Harter, who kept calm after her car hit a school bus at the Summit Bridge Road and Brennan Boulevard intersection on April 9. She was given several blood transfusions, treated at Christiana Hospital and later enrolled at the University of Delaware to study health care. WDEL

- ➤ UD mechanical engineer Michael Hast led a new NIH-funded five-year project to develop MRI-based computer models that detect bone healing problems earlier—his team will test the models first on a sheep model and then enroll about 50 patients at the University of Pennsylvania to track recovery.
