EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Goldey-Beacom College Alumni Association is hosting its fourth annual Fall Craft Fair on Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the college campus—local artisans and small businesses will sell handmade holiday items to benefit scholarships and student support funds. WDEL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wilmington will restrict homeless encampments by limiting camping to designated spaces (Christina Park) and will open a day center for the unhoused. The city will partner with the Wilmington Housing Authority and the Ministry of Caring to launch the center at (600 E. 4th St.) using $600,000 from a state bond to help fund these initiatives. - ➤ The Food Bank of Delaware has launched an interactive map to help residents find local food pantries while Gov. Matt Meyer declared a state of emergency — that allows weekly SNAP funding releases even though benefits will not be distributed in November without federal action. About 119,000 Delawareans, including 60,000 families and 45,000 children, receive SNAP benefits each year. Delaware Online
- ➤ DelDOT will change the I-95 northbound lane split near Wilmington during the week of November 10 by reducing five lanes to four—drivers must decide early whether to continue on I-95 or take I-495. The change is part of a three-phase repair project to fix potholes and damage on the bridges over I-295, with work set to finish by Fall 2026. WDEL
- ➤ Wilmington launched a program to offer forgivable home loans of up to $15,000 to teachers and school staff, including paraprofessionals and social workers, to help them buy their first homes and stay in the city—using $500,000 from federal and local funds as part of efforts to boost educator retention. - ➤ The New Castle County Division of Police announced that K9 Ramza, K9 Indy, and K9 Hammer graduated from its Police K9 Training Program today and will join their handlers to serve the community. Ramza (a one-year-old Dutch Shepherd trained in patrol and explosives detection) and Indy (a one-year-old Belgian Malinois trained in patrol and narcotics detection) were assigned to Ofc. Nichol and Ofc. Currinder, while Hammer, a one-year-old German Shepherd Malinois cross, is paired with M/Cpl. D. Williams. New Castle County Police Department

- ➤ Delaware will face Liberty on Nov. 1 at 3:30 p.m. at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia—if the Blue Hens win, it will boost their FBS readiness as they enter the game with a 4-3 record in Conference USA. Delaware Online
- ➤ Identical twins Stephanie and Tiffany Herrera from UD have led the cross country and track teams with a close bond that began in middle school. They are now guiding new members as UD prepares for the Conference USA championships on Nov. 1 — a testament to years of shared dedication. University of Delaware
- ➤ University of Delaware alum Elena Delle Donne, a Wilmington native, will be inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026 — her induction ceremony is scheduled for June 27 at the Tennessee Theatre. - ➤ Today, Riley Horsey of Archmere won the Delaware Online High School Sports Athlete of the Week award by finishing the varsity girls race at the Diamond State Conference championships in 19:03.78 as her team secured the girls team title.
