COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA) said GoFundMe created unauthorized donation pages for 1.4 million nonprofits without permission, causing confusion for both donors and organizations. GoFundMe quickly changed its policy to an opt-in method and removed the unapproved pages after concerns were raised.  Delaware Public Media
  • Delaware Natural Resources Police will begin collecting donated toys on Oct. 29 for the Toys for Tots program to help families in need. Donations are accepted at Delaware State Park offices and key drop-off spots until Dec. 10 in Kent and Sussex counties and until Dec. 6 in New Castle County—ensuring local children will receive holiday gifts.  Deleware State Government

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Corteva plans to move from Chestnut Run Plaza at the end of 2025 and shift operations to the historic Brandywine Building in downtown Wilmington. The relocation is supported by up to $1,000,000 in grants from the Delaware Council on Development Finance to help keep over 200 local jobs—officials say the change will boost the business scene.  WDEL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A state board approved a $1M taxpayer-funded grant on Monday to keep more than 200 high-paying administrative jobs for Corteva, which will move to the downtown Brandywine Building with a 10-year lease by early next year. The grant is expected to boost local revenues—supporting the city with additional wage tax income.  Spotlight Delaware

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Food and agribusiness marketing junior Keeley McCormick turned a required job shadow assignment into an internship with Mountaire’s grain department last summer — where she assisted with contract management, farmer recruitment, and research on grain deliveries. She recently joined UD’s National Agri-Marketing Association team to build on her hands-on sales and agribusiness skills.  University of Delaware

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bancroft Bridge reopened in Wilmington after being rebuilt to remove the old 1909 structure and move it out of the floodplain so it will avoid future flooding. The project was funded by a $2.7 million FEMA grant + $800K in state funds following damage from Hurricane Ida floodwaters.  Delaware Public Media
  • State lawmakers held the first meeting of the Delaware Nuclear Energy Feasibility Task Force on Monday—focusing on whether small modular reactors are safe, cost-effective, and a good option for Dover Air Force Base. The task force will meet again on Dec. 1 to review construction needs and set a timeline for their final report.  WHYY
  • A new law has taken effect in Delaware today that prevents medical debt from being added to credit reports—Senate Bill 156 passed unanimously to protect families from long-term financial harm. State officials say eligible residents with incomes at or below 400% of the federal poverty level and debt equal to 5% or more of their income will soon receive letters about having their debt eliminated.  WDEL
