- ➤ Ministry of Caring in Wilmington announced it is scrambling for support amid deep government funding cuts and rising costs, driven by record homelessness, and urges community members to donate money, food, or volunteer to help serve meals at its Emmanuel Dining Room. Since its founding, the dining room has provided over 7 million meals, including 151,631 served last year—an 8.1% increase from the previous year. Delaware Online

- ➤ Dozens of UD students marched on Thursday demanding the school become a sanctuary campus that does not share student information with ICE—more than 400 signatures were left on a petition at the President’s office. The demonstrators also called for a fund to help international students facing deportation—while a UD spokesperson said the university continues to support its international scholars. - ➤ Married MBA students Nabila Briste and Tahseef Reza from UD’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics balanced graduate study with prestigious summer internships at JPMorgan Chase and Sallie Mae. - ➤ Caesar Rodney School District will ask voters on Feb. 9 to support an operating expense referendum that raises the school tax rate by less than 10 cents per $100 assessed value—costing the average taxpayer about $274 more each year—to bring in roughly $6.1 million for educator retention, public safety and student programs after a unanimous board vote on Oct. 13. The measure marks the district’s first referendum for operating funds in a decade. Delaware Online
- ➤ University of Delaware engineers uncovered a new method to measure magnetic waves using electrical signals—this study shows that magnons, or magnetic spin waves in antiferromagnetic materials, create a measurable voltage that could lead to faster, energy-efficient computers, and the team has begun experiments to test the findings. - ➤ Delaware employers will not face penalties or interest for late submissions during the first year of the state’s new Paid Leave program scheduled to start in January 2026—businesses must submit quarterly reports on time and complete any late filings by March 31. WDEL
- ➤ DEA and local law enforcement are hosting Prescription Drug Take Back Day today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.—attendees can drop off expired or unwanted prescriptions at Wilmington Police Headquarters, ILG Airport, or the VA Medical Center with a permanent bin available in the police lobby. WDEL
- ➤ DNREC reopened Bancroft Bridge, which had been closed since September 2021 after Hurricane Ida, to reconnect residents to Alapocas Run State Park and the Delaware Greenway. The new prefabricated bridge weighs 100,000 pounds+ it features an 11-foot clearance to help protect against future floods. Deleware State Government

- ➤ Highmark, Delaware's largest insurer, will drop its Freedom Blue PPO Prestige Medicare Advantage plan for seniors starting next year because of long-term sustainability and federal funding cuts.
