  • The Community Services Unit will host its annual Trunk or Treat at the Route 9 Library (3022 New Castle Avenue) on October 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the New Castle County Division of Police leading pumpkin decorating, face painting, and trick-or-treating in the parking lot.  New Castle County Police Department

  • Angelo’s, the Philly cheesesteak restaurant, celebrated its debut this week at DE.CO Food Hall near Rodney Square — where Mayor John Carney and local business leaders joined community members for the 'first bite' ceremony. The restaurant will serve customers Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  WDEL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delaware soybean farmers have seen prices drop from $14.20 to $10.33 per bushel due to a global surplus and China's stopped imports, but they remain hopeful as local poultry companies keep buying their crops. They have used forward contracting and grain storage to secure better deals — stabilizing their market despite tough international pressures.  Spotlight Delaware

  • Nearly three dozen Barclays Bank employees visited Harlan Elementary on October 21 as part of their Adopt-a-Classroom initiative. They adopted all 40 classrooms while delivering over $20,000 in supplies — an effort led by Vice President Carrie Edwards, a parent of former Harlan students.  WDEL
  • At UD’s Lerner College, academic advisor Keri Rodney built a personalized four-year plan for junior Grace Kotzen to help her manage a double major and secure a spot in a winter study abroad program in Australia—she eased class scheduling worries and set a strong example that influenced her younger brother to join the College of Engineering. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNREC stocked about 1,000 pounds of 12- to 13-inch rainbow trout in White Clay Creek yesterday to give local anglers a chance to fish for trout during fall and winter. The stocking reached from near the Pennsylvania state line downstream to Newark.  Deleware State Government

  • On October 22, the Delaware Department of Labor relaunched the Delaware Career Resource Network—an online tool that helps K-12 students, teachers, and families learn about career pathways, training options, and in-demand jobs.  Deleware State Government
  • The State Council of Persons with Disabilities held its 23rd Partnership Event in Cheswold on October 20 and awarded the Mary Custis Straughn Award to Alyssa Cowin from the Department of Health and Social Services and Jill Fredel, a former DHSS communications head, with Rita Landgraf presenting the honor. The meeting brought together state workers and partners to discuss plans for people with disabilities—sharing ideas on web access rules and budget cuts like Medicaid cuts—so services can improve.  Deleware State Government
