COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Thousands attended No Kings Day rallies in Wilmington and Newark on October 18 as organizers urged support for constitutional rights—events were also scheduled in Dover, the Rehoboth Beach area, Lewes and Georgetown.  WDEL
  • The 7th Street Bridge between Adams and Jackson will host the seventh United Neighbors celebration today from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.—a community event featuring music, art, food, and a memorial plaque honoring the late Caren Turner, organized by West Side Grows Together, the City, and M-and-T Bank.  WDEL

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Oct. 18, 2025, people celebrated Diwali at the newly renovated BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir near New Castle—children gave a unity presentation and meals were served in a renovated basketball gym.  Delaware Online
  • A newly renovated temple near New Castle held its biggest Diwali celebration on October 18, drawing thousands for prayers, cultural exhibits, and food as part of the festival of lights (the temple was upgraded last December). County Executive Marcus Henry attended the event (showing support for the growing Indian community) as celebrations build ahead of the official Diwali on October 20.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nemours Kids Health recommends that parents set a strict curfew and serve a high protein and fiber dinner before trick-or-treating on Halloween. They advise limiting candy—especially chocolate consumption—and turning off screens to help children wind down and get the sleep they need based on their age.  Delaware Online

  • Madelyn Way of Saint Mark's volleyball was named Delaware Online High School Sports Athlete of the Week for Week 6 by Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists after she recorded 78 assists and 24 digs in a 3-0 win over Smyrna and a 3-2 loss to Newark Charter — the award was decided by free online voting held Monday through Thursday.  Delaware Online
