COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ezion Fair Baptist Church celebrated its new senior housing complex in Southbridge—each townhome bears a placard honoring longtime church members.  Delaware Online

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Starwood Digital Ventures has launched a PR campaign to support its proposed data center near Delaware City—claiming it will create 700 jobs and generate millions in tax revenue amid concerns over high energy use and environmental impacts. The company faces strong opposition from residents and environmental groups while officials work on new data center regulations.  Spotlight Delaware

CULTURE NEWS

  • Point-to-Point, the annual May event at Winterthur, will not be held in 2026 as the museum prepares to reimagine the event for future years— while also planning a spring celebration for its 75th anniversary and marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.  WDEL
  • A colorful mural now brightened the back of ShopRite at Christina Crossing on South Walnut Street in Wilmington—designed by artist Christian Kanienberg with support from the City and Kenny Family ShopRites for their 30th anniversary. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two UD nursing seniors spent their summer as Flynn Fellows in pediatric oncology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Boston Children’s Hospital—gaining hands-on experience with patient care and clinical skills in pediatric cancer units. Morales-Devine will join CHOP as a nurse resident after graduation while Di Corpo, who presented at a pediatric oncology conference in Providence, plans to build her career in oncology nursing.  University of Delaware

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On October 6th, the University of Delaware held Coast Day to study local environmental resources—bringing together experts and students in shared research efforts.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Wilmington should prepare as daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. November 2—clocks must be set back one hour on November 1 and batteries in smoke detectors replaced.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents are advised to check local fire restrictions and weather forecasts before starting a backyard fire and follow safety steps such as clearing brush, maintaining distance from structures, and keeping water on hand to fully extinguish the fire. The guide outlines treatment for burns by using cool water, gauze, and seeking appropriate medical care — ensuring safe enjoyment of fall fire activities.  Delaware Online

  • On Oct 10, high school football games in Delaware showed big plays as St. Andrew's beat Early College School 42 to 20, Appoquinimink won 17 to 14 in overtime, and Smyrna earned a 42 to 34 victory over Cape Henlopen.
