CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of New Castle will host a watch party as military vessels join the Homecoming 250 Parade of Ships on October 9th, with Navy and Coast Guard ships moving up the Delaware River to gather south of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Officials warn that heavy traffic and street closures will require visitors to arrive early and follow directions from traffic control officers — making proper planning essential.  WDEL

  • Filmmaker Jahmar Hill appeared on Good Morning Delaware today and shared his journey from Elizabeth, NJ to Hollywood while discussing early struggles, work with Warner Bros. and Sony, and his new Amazon Prime thriller Mya’s House. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Anna Servidio, a 21-year-old senior environmental science student at UD known for her leadership and kind nature, passed away on Aug.17 and is mourned by friends, family and professors — her memory continues to inspire environmental efforts on campus.  University of Delaware
  • Odyssey Charter School opened its new Immersion School K-5 building on Sept.-18 as the only program of its kind outside Greece. Officials said the program is set for rapid growth as it expands.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Matt Meyer signed House Bill 71 last Friday night that requires all coaches to be trained in CPR, first aid, and AED use and mandates schools to keep AEDs on-site and maintain emergency action plans during sports events — the measure aims to boost responses to cardiac emergencies and ensure student athlete safety.  Deleware State Government
  • Today New Castle County planners meet at 7 p.m. at the Gilliam Building to review proposed rules for a massive data center—Kent County holds a wastewater workshop at 6 p.m. and the Smyrna school board addresses teacher pay on Wednesday.   • Today, Delaware officials urged drivers to be extra cautious because deer are more active as mating season nears and darker roads raise collision risks. Officials from DNREC, OHS, and DSP said that safer driving habits like slowing down and using high beams can help avoid crashes—especially on wooded roadways.  Deleware State Government
