- ➤ Delaware will host the 2026 LIFE Conference on January 21 at Bally’s Conference Center in Dover — the event will bring more than 500 participants with disabilities, their families and advocates together to learn and network. - ➤ Ivan and Vincenza welcomed Grouchy Greg of AllHipHop and Brother Iz Balleto from the Delaware Art Museum to preview the 3rd Annual Hip Hop Cultural Summit happening October 18—an event that will celebrate hip hop music, art, and community with performances, workshops, and cultural exchange. - ➤ UD alumna Hojung Lee, the first doctoral graduate of the university's interdisciplinary education and social policy program, now works as a postdoctoral associate at Rice and studies how federal Title I dollars affect schools for underserved students. She was named a 2025 APPAM Equity and Inclusion Young Professional Fellow — a recognition that shows her work bridges policy and practice — and her research may help shape fairer education systems. - ➤ Wilmington officials are planning to inspect the inside of homes to review property assessments after residents complained about high tax bills, and Mayor Carney said a third-party company will check homes in neighborhoods like Hilltop and Southbridge. The city will ask the council to approve a $500,000 budget amendment on Oct 2 so the new data can help lower future tax bills. Spotlight Delaware
- ➤ The special property reassessment committee held its first meeting on Sept. 30 at Legislative Hall in Dover to review the methodology used by Tyler Technologies in Delaware's first statewide property reassessment in 40 years—one of four planned sessions. - ➤ The Delaware Department of Correction announced that the century-old Plummer Community Corrections Center in Wilmington will close by March 2026 due to a long drop in community supervision numbers, underused capacity, and high maintenance costs — a decision expected to save millions of dollars each year. - ➤ DNREC is launching new interactive dashboards that let homeowners, contractors, and the public check permit application status and view issued documents. The system will improve transparency and let staff focus on permit reviews as they plan to add more permit types soon — including well and septic permits. Deleware State Government
- ➤ The Delaware Department of Finance and the Division of Revenue warned Wilmington residents today about a rise in fraudulent text messages claiming to be official tax refund notices—residents are urged to verify any message directly with the agency before taking action. Deleware State Government
- ➤ Today, Georgetown submitted its 2025 Outdoor Parks Recreation and Trails grant application to the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation, seeking $100,000 to improve the trailhead parking area along the Lewes-Georgetown Trail + the town expects the funds to boost local outdoor recreation in the near future. - ➤ Delaware lawmakers held a hearing Tuesday to probe why New Castle County waited until the middle of November 2024 to mail provisional tax notices even though county staff had recommended a summer mailing—this delay led to steep tax hikes for many homeowners.
