COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Wilmington man named John Grieshaber has been named one of four finalists for The NASCAR Foundation’s Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award and may win $100,000 for his work with A Better Chance for Our Children—where he volunteers as treasurer organizing fun days for local kids. Online voting will run until Nov 3 and the winner will be announced at the NASCAR Awards on Nov 4.  Delaware Online
  • On September 29th, Perdue Farms donated 37,152 pounds of whole Cornish hens to the Food Bank of Delaware in Milford—this act honored Hunger Action Month and will help support those in need.  Bay to Bay News
  • Residents at Osprey Point filed a class action lawsuit against NVR and a local developer — they say promised amenities have not been built and may never be provided.  Delaware Online

BUSINESS NEWS

  • BMW, Ford, Chrysler, Hyundai & Jaguar Land Rover are recalling hundreds of thousands of vehicles due to risks of fire from issues like corroded engine parts, faulty battery junctions and detached trim that can create safety hazards. Dealers will perform free repairs as owner notification letters were mailed or will be mailed between Sept 25 and November 21, and owners are advised to park their vehicles away from structures until fixes are complete.  Delaware Online

  • Gregory Shelton of Poplar Hall joined Good Morning Delaware to explain how his new production Revolutionary Spirits will captivate audiences when it premieres October 4th — detailing key performances and the creative inspiration behind the show.  DETV
  • Ivan and Vincenza have invited Grouchy Greg of AllHipHop and Brother Iz Balleto of Delaware Art Museum to talk about the upcoming 3rd Annual Hip Hop Cultural Summit on October 18. Greg Shelton of Poplar Hall will premiere his production Revolutionary Spirits on October 4—bringing fresh art to Wilmington.  DETV
  • Ivan and Vincenza welcomed Grouchy Greg of AllHipHop and Brother Iz Balleto of Delaware Art Museum to preview the 3rd Annual Hip Hop Cultural Summit—an event that will take place on October 18th and celebrate hip hop culture through performances, workshops, and community exchange.  DETV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Secretary of Education Cindy Marten announced yesterday a new grant called Bridge to Practice — a competitive program designed to help every Delaware child read on grade level by third grade. The grant will support early literacy programs across the state.  Deleware State Government
  • The Delaware DOJ released a report finding that the Christina School Board failed to meet transparency standards by not recording detailed minutes and consistent voting procedures—issues including board members not identifying themselves and technical glitches in virtual meetings—while new board leader Monica Moriak said the board is already making changes. This report calls for FOIA training and better adherence to Robert's Rules of Order to improve accountability.  Delaware Public Media
  • The Caesar Rodney School Board will vote on October 13 on a proposed referendum that, if approved, will be placed on the early February ballot to fund teacher raises, address rising costs, and enhance school safety. Officials say the move is needed as the district has struggled with funding since a failed referendum in 2023.  Delaware Public Media
  • Delaware State University was ranked among the top five public HBCUs and the top ten overall, marking its seventh and ninth year in these lists—showing its strong academic performance.  Bay to Bay News
  • Delaware private schools charge high tuition fees for the 2025–26 school year—St. Andrew's School charges over $72,000 while Salesianum School charges $21,200. Data from the Delaware Department of Education in March shows about 14,700 students attend 95 private schools, and many of these schools offer financial aid.  Delaware Online

  • On September 13, over 950 volunteers joined DNREC’s 38th annual Coastal Cleanup that removed 5,121 pounds of trash from more than 45 sites from Fenwick Island to Battery Park—data from the effort helped state officials plan future litter reduction actions.  Deleware State Government
