- ➤ WorldAtlas named nine small Delaware towns as hidden secrets that offer rich history, friendly charm and a slower pace away from busy areas; these towns are Arden, Bridgeville, Magnolia, Milton, New Castle, Odessa, Pike Creek, Selbyville and Wyoming. New Castle is the oldest town in the Delaware River valley and Milton shows off Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (a local highlight) while Odessa hosts yearly events (showing its heritage). Delaware Online
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Delaware DMV fees will increase on Oct. 1, with charges for duplicate IDs, name changes, driver’s license renewals, and alternative fuel vehicle registrations—affecting over 48,000 vehicles—set to rise to generate about $107 million for transportation projects. Delaware Online
- ➤ Today at Legislative Hall in Dover the Senate holds an extraordinary session at 3 p.m. to consider 15 nominees including a judge and a cabinet secretary for the new Department of Veterans Affairs—state transportation planners will hold a public meeting in Kent today from 4 to 6 p.m. and in Sussex Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m., police oversight meetings are set for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Camden Wyoming and Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Georgetown, and New Castle County Council will vote on a $9.6 million contract Tuesday in Wilmington. - ➤ Delaware had positive net migration in 2023 as more people moved in than left according to the Department of Labor — a trend that continued for nine years. Residents aged 25 and older from all educational groups were part of this shift. Bay to Bay News
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Delaware’s county recorders will begin recording standardized Transfer on Death deed forms on Dec. 4 to let homeowners name a beneficiary who inherits their property without probate. The law signed by Gov. Matt Meyer on Sept. 5 applies only if the owner dies on or after Dec. 4 (homeowners can still change, sell, or revoke the deed until then) and legal advice is recommended. - ➤ New data from Realtor.com showed that the median home sale price in New Castle County rose 3.2% to $350,000 in June from $339,000 in May, while single-family homes increased 5.2% to $405,000. The rising figures indicate a strengthening market for local homeowners. Delaware Online

- ➤ Five champions—Charlie Bell, Beth Webster, Haley Pierce, Sarah Klein and LaMar Bruton—will be inducted into the Delaware Track and Field Hall of Fame later this fall.
