- ➤ After weeks of competition, forty food trucks have been cut down to the final nine in the Delaware Food Truck Frenzy contest. Local readers will vote for their favorite truck from Sept. 16 to 21 (with the winner announced on Sept. 25) as the contest seeks to crown the state’s top mobile kitchen. Delaware Online
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews are taking down Dam 6 at the DuPont Experimental Station to open the river for fish—while leaving parts of the dam intact to share its history. The Brandywine River Restoration Trust says the work will improve water quality and help native fish return. WHYY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer intervened in a Congressional fight over extending boosted tax credits for the Affordable Care Act to keep premiums from rising next year. Eighteen state governors supported his call and warned that without the extended credits thousands of residents could face higher costs—adding pressure on lawmakers to act soon. Spotlight Delaware
- ➤ After weeks of uncertainty, SEPTA restored bus, train and rail service on September 14. A fare hike from $2.50 to $2.90 was implemented, and the general manager said funding issues remain unresolved—long-term solutions are needed. Delaware LIVE
- ➤ The Delaware Office of the Marijuana Commissioner announced the Social Equity Financial Assistance Grant Program to support approved social equity licensees with funds for facility build-out, equipment, and start-up expenses. The agency said grant funding will be disbursed in phases as licensees complete key operational milestones in the coming weeks. WDEL
- ➤ DNREC is thinking about raising fees for Delaware State Parks because costs have risen steeply since 2015 — it will hold open houses on Sept. 30 in Wilmington, Oct. 1 in Lewes, and Oct. 2 in Felton to let people share their views — as it plans to cover park upkeep expenses. WDEL
- ➤ Today, Delaware Department of Labor Secretary LaKresha Moultrie announced that Joanna Barnekov-Staib is the new statewide coordinator of the Office of Workforce Development—established by Governor Matt Meyer’s Executive Order 10—and will manage state and federal resources efficiently. - ➤ Governor Matt Meyer enacted House Bill 250 at New Castle Court House Museum, allowing the DMV to sell the new 250 license plate for $50—$35 of which will support Delaware250 events. Delaware250 will use the funds for a trivia night on December 4, a gala at the Hotel DuPont, and a bicycle tour with the governor to honor 250 years of freedom. WDEL
