COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, September 13, about 1,500 people turned Delaware Avenue into a secret dining space for Diner en Blanc in Wilmington. Attendees wore all white—bringing their own tables, chairs, linens, and picnic baskets—and the event featured the Blooming Elegance theme hosted by Sherell and Michael Flagg.  WDEL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Multiple automakers including Ford, Mazda, Toyota, Rivian, Honda, and Volvo are recalling vehicles for issues such as distorted rearview images, faulty fuel gauges, software glitches, and component defects that can affect driver safety. Dealers will inspect and repair the vehicles free of charge, and owners are set to receive notification letters from Sept 8 to Nov 4—VINs can be checked on NHTSA.gov to confirm recall status.  Delaware Online

  • On September 15, Wilmington hosted the annual Hispanic Parade that celebrated the vibrant culture—showing deep community roots across Delaware.  Delaware Online
  • The Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame Portrait Exhibition opened September 15 at ChristianaCare’s Center for Heart & Vascular Health on Newark Campus—4755 Ogletown-Stanton Road—and features more than 170 watercolor portraits by Theresa Walton honoring Delaware’s trailblazing women.  Deleware State Government

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Office of the Marijuana Commissioner announced today the Social Equity Financial Assistance Grant Program known as SEFA to support social equity licensees in the adult-use marijuana industry — providing milestone-based funding for facility build-out, equipment acquisition and other start-up costs.  Delaware LIVE
  • Wilmington City Councilmember Yolanda McCoy introduced two ordinances—one requiring landlords to include full tenants' rights with leases and another allowing tenants to escrow part of their rent if repairs are delayed—that she will present at the October 2 meeting.  Delaware Public Media
  • Today, Governor Matt Meyer signed Senate Bill 80 + House Bill 119 at the Joseph Johnson School in Wilmington, which strengthen free speech protections and ensure free access to books in public and school libraries. The bills also prevent lawsuits meant to silence speakers and set up a fair review process for challenges to library materials.  Deleware State Government
  • Delaware’s social equity marijuana license holders will soon receive grants through the new Social Equity Financial Assistance program—helping them cover costs for facility build-out, equipment, and other start-up needs for recreational cannabis businesses. The program, launched by Marijuana Commissioner Josh Sanderlin, is funded by money from conversion license sales and will support qualifying applicants as they reach key operational milestones.  Delaware Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Delaware Community Foundation provided $13.1 million to the Delaware Center for Cognitive Aging Research at UD on September 15th to boost Alzheimer’s prevention research. The five-year gift will expand a statewide study—supporting purchases like a new MRI machine and efforts to develop earlier diagnostic tools.  University of Delaware

  • Delaware homeowners can use a Transfer on Death deed—effective Dec. 4—to pass property directly to beneficiaries and avoid probate delays and fees. The new law gives families without a will a simple way to protect their property rights.  Delaware LIVE
