BUSINESS NEWS

  • Farmer & the Cow has opened a new location on Market Street that serves Wilmington customers with its popular menu. The restaurant plans to continue expanding its reach in the community.  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • APT2B.com’s analysis of October Google Trends data for 40 candy bars revealed that Nestle Crunch is the most popular Halloween treat in Delaware—nearby states prefer different candies such as Sour Patch Kids in New Jersey, Twizzlers in Pennsylvania and Mr. Goodbar in Maryland. A survey of 1,000 parents found that 92% plan to go trick-or-treating and many believe houses with decorations deliver better candy.  Delaware Online

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • This fall, brown marmorated stink bugs from Eastern Asia will seek shelter in local homes as temperatures drop. Homeowners can protect their homes by sealing cracks, repairing screens and reducing outdoor lights (expert advice) to keep these stinky pests out.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Matt Meyer signed two bills to support volunteer fire companies statewide — one bill lets high school students earn community service credit by helping at their local fire department and the other will provide $7,000 in funeral expenses for volunteer responders. The funeral benefit will take effect Oct. 1 and the measures aim to help recruit and retain volunteer first responders.  Delaware Public Media
  • Wilmington street parking is free after 6 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends, while downtown garages and commercial lots still require payment. Meters allow only a two-hour stay—violations lead to a $40 fine.  Delaware Online
  • Drivers in Delaware must follow strict window tint rules that allow only rear windows and back windshields to be tinted without a valid medical waiver, while front and side windows must show at least 70% light to pass DMV inspection. Law enforcement may issue fines and, for repeat violations, even jail time—drivers must remove illegal tint to comply with the law.  Delaware Online

  • Penny Rogers, co-founder and executive director of Face the Facts, explained the importance of Overdose Awareness Day DE — stressing the need for public understanding of overdose prevention. Her remarks highlighted how community organizations play a key role in educating local residents.  Delaware Online

SPORTS NEWS

  • Delaware high school football games last weekend were extremely close—several matches were decided by one or two points with overtime wins for teams like Newark Charter and Hodgson. The tight results set up important playoff points as teams prepare for key matchups next week.  WDEL
  • On Saturday evening, the University of Delaware won a 44-41 overtime game against UConn as graduate kicker Nate Reed redeemed his missed attempt and junior quarterback Nick Manicucci scored the winning touchdown — the Blue Hens will face Florida International next Saturday.  Delaware LIVE
