ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On September 8th, a car and an SUV collided on New Castle Avenue, sending a car into a service center and injuring three people—the 35-year-old man was flown to Christiana Hospital with serious injuries while the 38-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were treated for minor injuries, rescue teams from Claymont Fire Company and Wilmington Fire Department responded, and Delaware state troopers are investigating the crash. - ➤ A Wilmington man, Bryan L. Brady, was convicted by a Delaware Superior Court jury on felony charges of shoplifting over $1500 and second-degree conspiracy—both carrying up to two years in jail. Deleware State Government
- ➤ Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash in New Castle that happened last night at 8:00 p.m. on South Dupont Highway near Pulaski Highway—an unknown vehicle struck a pedestrian walking north in the southbound lane, and the victim was later found dead after a four-hour road closure. - ➤ The Wilmington Learning Collaborative spent $1.4 million to offer 18 summer programs at 9 schools that ran for 5 weeks through July and early August but saw only 57% attendance due to staffing shortages. A WLC report recommends higher pay for summer staff and aligning program hours with work schedules to boost participation in the future. Delaware Public Media
- ➤ Wilmington’s Office of Educational Advocacy launched a new website on September 8 to offer parents, educators and community partners easy access to education information and upcoming events. Director LaRetha Odumosu said the site—an extension of the office’s early outreach—will help keep the public informed as it works to support local students. Delaware Public Media

- ➤ Delaware was chosen by former President Joe Biden to host his presidential library, officials announced on Sept. 6. The planned library will showcase his legacy in a museum and event space — fundraising efforts will begin soon. Delaware Online
- ➤ Delaware Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester unveiled The New Way Home Agenda on September 5 at Imani Village near abandoned Riverside homes—aiming to expand housing supply, reconnect communities, introduce innovative models, and revise tax policy while calling for federal action to make home ownership more attainable. The plan is designed to address past zoning discrimination and support young buyers and seniors facing high housing costs. WDEL
- ➤ Delaware joined eight northeastern states as part of a new public health group to create its own vaccine rules amid concerns over federal policy changes and new FDA restrictions. State officials said the group will use science—rather than politics—to guide its recommendations and help protect public health. Delaware Public Media
- ➤ The Delaware Office of Unclaimed Property will return almost $400,000 in unclaimed funds to roughly 2800 taxpayers this week through the annual MONEY MATCH program using data matching technology—eligible recipients simply cash their check.
