CRIME NEWS

  • Wilmington police are investigating a fatal shooting that killed 17-year-old Ahmad Holmes on September 1 in the 1200 block of Sycamore Street at 1:20 p.m.—he was taken to a hospital where he later died and authorities are asking the public for tips.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • All Delaware public school students now get free breakfasts after Gov. Matt Meyer signed a law in July that allows every district to serve meals—districts such as Delmar and Red Clay are expanding services with extra supplies and new lunch programs to meet student needs.  Spotlight Delaware
  • Business, political, and civic leaders greeted students at EastSide Charter School in Wilmington during its 10th annual Suit Up, Show Up event—celebrating the milestone and focusing on student support.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Superior Court struck down part of HB451 that required hunters aged 18–21 to have an adult 21 or older with them, ruling that the state constitution protects gun rights for all residents 18 and older. The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control updated the hunting rules so that those aged 18 to 21 may hunt without direct supervision.  First State Update

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Delaware Food Truck Frenzy contest is in Round 8 with 13 trucks competing as readers vote from Sept. 2 to Sept. 7 to decide the top treat station. Round 7 winner Taco Reho joined trucks like DonutNV and Twizted Sizters in the Prime 9 lineup — the contest began on July 15.  Delaware Online
  • Seventeen events are set for Delaware in September, including a UD football game at Folsom Field, an Amish Country Bike Tour in Dover, and art and music festivals in Wilmington (at The Queen) and Bethany Beach. These activities span sports, culture, and food celebrations, offering diverse ways for residents to enjoy the month.  Delaware Online
