BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Labor Day, many Delaware stores such as Trader Joe’s, Giant Eagle, Target, and Walmart will run regular hours while Costco, banks, government offices, the DMV, and libraries will be closed or offer limited service; select DART bus routes will operate on a reduced schedule.  Delaware Online

CRIME NEWS

  • Troopers responded at 11:00 a.m. on August 28th to a warehouse on Bear-Corbit Road—where they found a 23-year-old male stabbed several times—and secured Wilbur Elementary School as a precaution while the investigation remains active.  First State Update

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the Brandywine Zoo, kids and families learned fun facts about animals during Keeper Chats held on Saturday, August 30 when zookeepers answered questions beside exhibits — providing visitors a hands-on learning experience.  6abc

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hurricane Erin did little damage to Delaware’s infrastructure but eroded the beaches and the Indian River Inlet—recovery is expected to take weeks.  Bay to Bay News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Superior Court ruling on August 29 eliminated the 2022 law that required Delaware hunters ages 18—21 to have direct supervision when the hunting season opens Monday, Sept. 1. Young hunters will no longer need to be accompanied by someone age 21 or older for the upcoming season.  Deleware State Government
  • Delaware Attorney General Kathleen Jennings joined 24 states and the District of Columbia in a lawsuit that blocked large cuts to AmeriCorps funding. The victory led the Office of Management and Budget to release $184 million in funds, with more than $750,000 set for Delaware programs.  Delaware Online

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A survey by New Jersey Real Estate Network of 3,013 people ranked three Delaware beach towns among America's most stunning coastal communities—Slaughter Beach was 31, Bowers Beach 50, and Lewes 69.  Delaware Online

SPORTS NEWS

  • Two top Delaware high school football teams, Smyrna and Middletown, played out-of-state games last week and lost close—Smyrna lost 49 to 46 to Coatesville while Middletown fell 14 to 13 to Bishop Watterson. Other games saw mixed results with St. Georges beating William Penn 24 to 7 and several teams set to face important matchups next week—including Dover at Appoquinimink Friday at 7:30 p.m.  WDEL
