CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A stabbing at a New Castle warehouse late Thursday morning led to a lockdown at Wilbur Elementary School as police located a victim stabbed multiple times and searched on foot for a suspect—authorities have not yet taken anyone into custody. First State Update
- ➤ Middletown drug kingpin Dwayne Fountain was sentenced on Aug. 24 to 25 years in federal prison after prosecutors detailed his operation, which led to over 10 kilograms of fentanyl being seized—the largest fentanyl bust in Delaware and a network stretching from Seaford to Scranton. - ➤ On Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, detectives from New Castle County Police stopped a white Nissan Altima in Edgemoor for a traffic violation and arrested 47 year old Harice Reddick from Philadelphia after a search found a loaded handgun with a 20 round magazine, a forged prescription pad & prepackaged bags of marijuana along with additional concealed weapons, and he now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. - ➤ AVi will host its free youth event, Take FLIGHT with AVi, at Wilmington Airport on Saturday, September 27, offering STEAM activities such as a scavenger hunt and paper airplane contests—meant to teach children about flight. The event will include talks by aviation pioneer Jamail Larkins and hosts Lyndse Costabile and Samantha Mitchell—designed to spark interest in aviation. First State Update
- ➤ UD seniors gained real-world fashion retail skills last summer in NYC during an eight-week internship with Ross Stores and DD’s Discounts, where they ran sales reports, attended market appointments and completed final projects—experiences that built on their UD classroom learning. - ➤ The Police Athletic League of Delaware has new leadership after former director Valerie Longhurst resigned amid cash-flow issues—New Castle County Police Chief Jamie Leonard is now chair and Lt. Angela Dolan is the interim executive director. Delaware Online
- ➤ Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer vetoed a bill that would have limited counties from adjusting zoning for marijuana stores and returned the legislation to the state Senate. He said the move supports a state-wide cannabis market that partners with local governments—encouraging revenue sharing and local control. Delaware Online
