CULTURE NEWS

  • On August 26, the Delaware Division of the Arts awarded $5,056,525 in grants to 125 organizations to support arts programming, education projects, and cultural initiatives statewide. The funding will help sustain local jobs and improve community arts—strengthening cultural life across the state.  Deleware State Government

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Images from Aug. 18 to Aug. 22, 2025 show Hurricane Erin's impact on Delaware beaches—fencing and signs were removed at Cape Henlopen while rough waves hit dunes at Rehoboth and Read Street in Dewey Beach. Cleanup efforts resumed after the storm as weather conditions eased.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers passed a bill on July 1 that will let Delaware wineries ship wine directly to homes starting August 15 — letting households receive up to 36 bottles by mail and making Delaware the 49th state to allow direct shipments — while the law caps shipments at 1,800 cases statewide and expires in five years unless renewed.  WHYY
  • Today in Wilmington, Gov. Matt Meyer signed 11 bills that will improve public health by speeding up insurance approvals, modernizing emergency planning, and expanding healthcare services — including a compact that allows social workers to practice across state lines.  Deleware State Government
  • Delaware will open several hunting seasons on Sept. 1 for the 2025/'26 season, including archery and crossbow deer hunts, resident Canada goose, mourning dove, and coyote hunts. Gray squirrel hunts will start on Sept. 15 and early teal hunts on Sept. 20 will have special rules—designed to help manage state wildlife.  Deleware State Government
  • Governor Matt Meyer announced yesterday that his office began accepting applications for its Fall internship program, an eight-week term where selected interns will draft proclamations — answer constituent calls — and prepare event memos as they serve Delaware residents.  Deleware State Government

  • Delaware beaches are hosting their unofficial last week of summer with free live concerts, theatre shows and creative markets until Labor Day weekend. Bethany Beach Patrol Captain Joe Donnelly said the water is warm and calm—despite recent challenges from jellyfish and rough tides.  Delaware Online
