COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The New Castle County Police Department has partnered with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety to offer free car seat installations and safety inspections to fix issues like improper harness position and guidance for rear versus forward facing, after studies showed 80% of car seats are installed incorrectly.  New Castle County Police Department

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was shot multiple times Sunday afternoon near Vandever Avenue and North Locust Street—officers responded to reports of gunfire and emergency responders took him to a trauma center while police investigated the incident.  First State Update
  • Delaware State troopers caught 45-year-old Juan Carbajal after he robbed a woman at knifepoint in the Kohl's parking lot at 4437 Kirkwood Highway around 7 p.m. on Wednesday—he drove off in a white Dodge Ram before being booked on charges of first-degree robbery and possession of a deadly weapon.  WDEL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Delaware will host Move-in Weekend 2025 for new students and their families to settle into campus housing and attend orientation sessions this coming weekend (events are scheduled from Saturday to Sunday). Organizers expect a busy campus as the university prepares for the new academic year.  Delaware Online

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tropical Storm Fernand formed in the Atlantic on August 24—its rip currents now pose a high risk along Delaware’s beaches today even though the storm is forecast to remain offshore.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware leaders met today at a Medicaid roundtable to plan how to help 250,000 enrollees meet new work requirements so they do not lose coverage when Big, Beautiful Bill cuts federal funds. The state will upgrade its online ASSIST system — set up an ex parte verification process and launch a work program while it waits for CMS guidance and rural health funds.  Delaware Public Media

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Big Bounce America will return to Kirkwood Sports near New Castle from October 3rd to 5th this fall—featuring a 24,000-square-foot bounce house and six inflatable sections for all ages. Presale tickets start at $22 and sessions are organized by age, with Toddler sessions expected to sell out quickly.  Delaware Online

  • Delaware Stadium will feature new ticket and parking prices for the Blue Hens football season, with the opener set for Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. against Delaware State. The season plans offer individual and season ticket options along with game-day perks—special deals include a student tailgating zone and group discounts.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware voters can cast a free vote for the best high school field hockey player entering the 2025 season—presented by Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists. Nominees include reigning Division I Player of the Year Bree Moffett of Smyrna Eagles, Newark Charter's Audrey Nelson, and the Haynes twins from Caravel, with the winner to be announced Aug. 29.  Delaware Online
  • The Eagles traded for Vikings backup quarterback Sam Howell on August 24 in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick—Vikings received a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. The move reflects concerns over Tanner McKee’s finger injury and Kyle McCord’s performance ahead of the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 4.  Delaware Online
