COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents of Delaware can get a free library card by filling out a registration form and showing a photo ID at any local branch—to borrow books, arts supplies, board games, and even museum passes. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Delaware State Police said a fatal two-vehicle crash occurred in Newark on August 22 at about 3:23 p.m.—a maroon Chevrolet Trax making a left turn was hit by a high-speed BMW racing another vehicle, killing its 75-year-old driver and seriously injuring a 49-year-old driver while Bear Christiana Road was closed for about 3.5 hours.  First State Update

CULTURE NEWS

  • Serafin Ensemble begins its 2025—2026 concert season after last spring's all-ticket-sold shows and will perform themed concerts in Wilmington and other local venues. The 18-member group of international musicians will offer tributes to veterans, Baroque recitals, and youth programs—bringing a global chamber music experience to our community.  Delaware Online

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delmarva Power is offering a one-time program giving up to $300 in bill credits to Delaware customers who struggle with high energy bills. The fund is paid for by a $4.5 million donation from Exelon and is run by the Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility to help lower- and moderate-income households.  Delaware Online

  • Delaware state parks still offer a last-minute summer adventure for visitors planning a campout, hike or beach walk while following clear visitor stewardship guidelines — staying on designated trails and keeping nature safe. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Matt Meyer signed Senate Bill 52 this week to ease staffing shortages in Delaware schools and 24-hour state agencies — it removes a $50,000 earnings cap, lowers the age requirement for pensioners returning to work, and cuts the waiting period — to let experienced workers return when needed.  WDEL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill broke ground on a new three-story, 120-bed hospital in Smyrna to replace its outdated facility; the building will consolidate essential services — including therapy, a canteen, and expanded parking — and is set to finish by 2027.  WDEL
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that Delaware kindergartners’ vaccination rates increased slightly for the 2024–25 school year—one of the few states with rising rates—as most states saw declines.
