COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Aug. 17, 2025, hundreds of Latinos attended the eighth annual procession and mass in honor of La Virgen del Cisne at La Parroquia de Santos Angeles near Newark—organized by the Delaware Ministry of the Cisne and led by founder Alex Villalon from Mexico. The celebration featured music and folk dance with attendees coming from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington, DC, New Jersey and New York.  Delaware Online

CRIME NEWS

  • Brian Briddle, 27 from Newark, was sentenced after pleading guilty to causing the death of University of Delaware freshman Noelia Gomez who was struck by his speeding motorcycle on East Main Street on August 27—he will remain in prison until July 2039.  First State Update

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Public Archives launched a new interactive historical markers map on the state website—built using ArcGIS to let users view official markers and filter by categories such as Black History, Native American Heritage, and Women’s History. The tool makes it easier for residents to learn about Delaware’s past.  WDEL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Four Delaware high school girls flag football teams scrimmaged at Lincoln Financial Field during halftime of the Eagles vs Browns preseason game on Aug. 16. The event—part of an Eagles initiative that paid for equipment and plans to supply uniforms once 16 teams are formed—aims to grow the sport in the state and inspire youth participation.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware high school girls volleyball fans may cast a free vote for their top player for the 2025 season in a poll presented by Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists. The winner will be announced on August 22 & voters from across the state are encouraged to participate.  Delaware Online
