- ➤ Delaware State Police arrested Vincent Buckwash on August 14 for felony charges of unlawful sexual contact and sexual abuse of a child after an investigation at Anna P. Mote Elementary School revealed he inappropriately touched five students during the 2023-2024 school year—Buckwash was arraigned and released on a $30,000 secured bond. First State Update
- ➤ Delaware State University president Tony Allen was charged with driving under the influence, yet community leaders stress his decades of service—he expanded DSU with the acquisition of Wesley College and new academic programs—and urge Delawareans to consider his full record. DETV
- ➤ On August 13, 2025, Detectives from New Castle County Division of Police’s ACT Team stopped a speeding red Nissan Sentra in Edgemoor after it committed several traffic violations on Governor Printz Boulevard—recovering two loaded handguns and arresting driver Bre’yanah Coleman-Davis and passenger Wanya Wray for multiple offenses. - ➤ New teaching methods raised test scores by one or two points in Delaware, but many students still struggle with English, math and SAT reading. - ➤ Drivers pay more tolls today as DelDOT raises rates at I-95, Route 1, and U.S. 301. The I-95 Newark Toll Plaza now costs $5 per crossing while Route 1 uses updated rates based on payment method and weekend timing - with free Delaware E-ZPass transponders offered for accounts set up before August 31. - ➤ Dover's Sam Topper, the Delaware Forest Service wildland fire supervisor, led a crew fighting a Colorado wildfire from July 20 to Aug. 4 and left on Aug. 13 to help battle a blaze in Arizona + his team, which includes both state employees and trained seasonal volunteers, works 16-hour days in extreme conditions. With 21 years of firefighting experience, Topper is dedicated to giving his crew the training needed to protect communities both at home and out west. Delaware Online
