EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Mark’s High School appointed Aine Lafferty Bruhl as its new Director of Visual and Performing Arts—she brings over a decade of arts education and nonprofit leadership experience and plans to launch student-led projects to grow the school’s program.  Delaware LIVE
  • Professors Steve Goodwin and Jennifer Thorpe from UD were honored last spring with the Study Abroad Faculty Director of the Year Awards for leading a Health Behavior and Nutrition Science program that took students to view Olympic and World Cup games in western Europe—furthermore, they plan to co-lead a study abroad program in South Africa during the Winter Session in 2026.  University of Delaware

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Department of Labor is launching a monthly virtual series on Thursday, August 21 to boost job readiness and protect youth aged 14 to 17. The first session will run on Microsoft Teams from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will include updates on child labor laws & legislative changes.  Delaware LIVE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Before dining out, residents can use a database of more than 3,500 restaurants, food trucks, and church kitchens—updated twice yearly by the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services—to check for food safety violations. This tool helps consumers quickly see if their favorite spots meet current health guidelines.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware hospitals may raise prices for privately insured patients as federal cuts to Medicaid force them to seek new revenue sources—experts warn that reduced Medicaid funding could leave up to 50,000 Delawareans without coverage and lead to longer emergency room waits.
