  • A 43-year-old Delaware tax adviser orchestrated a $9.1M scam during the pandemic by using false documents to form 62 shell companies and divert COVID relief funds—he personally pocketed $1.3M and pleaded guilty in Wilmington as six others face charges.  WHYY

  • Experts said a proposed data center near Delaware City will likely raise residents' electric bills as growing energy demand forces utilities to invest in new infrastructure+ over 100 locals attended a town hall where the developer shared details and community concerns.  Spotlight Delaware

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal authorities are seeking payroll records from 15 Delaware businesses suspected of hiring undocumented immigrants, and Gov. Matt Meyer said his administration will fight the subpoena—calling it government intrusion. A U.S. judge ordered the state to file written arguments within two weeks as the investigation continues with many records kept under seal.  WHYY
  • A review by Spotlight Delaware of elected officials' homes found most will face higher property taxes after the recent reassessment, with many officials seeing increases of $1,000 or more—county council members and state legislators are among those affected. A few officials such as Gov. Matt Meyer and Wilmington State Sen. Ray Seigfried saw smaller hikes or even cuts, countering misleading online claims.  Spotlight Delaware
