ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, August 3rd, Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder firefighters and New Castle County paramedics rescued a 60-year-old biker who fell down a 20-foot ledge on Bryan's Field Trail at White Clay Creek State Park — they used a Stokes basket and ladder lift for nearly an hour — and she was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.  WDEL

CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday, August 2 at 7:25 a.m. in Bayberry South, New Castle County Police arrested 19-year-old Ni’yione Carter after he was caught trying to steal a 2015 Kia Soul following the recovery of a stolen 2024 Kia Forte—Carter faces charges for wearing a disguise during a felony and possession of burglar tools.  New Castle County Police Department

CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware will host a range of fall festivals that bring art, music and food to local communities. The Nanticoke Indian Powwow in Milton will run on Sept. 6—7, the Brandywine Festival of the Arts in Wilmington will be held on Sept. 6—7, the Historic Odessa Brewfest in Odessa is set for Sept. 6, and Weedstock in Townsend will run on Sept. 12—14; additional events in Georgetown, Bridgeville, Rehoboth Beach and Townsend will follow through October and November.  Delaware Online

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tropical Storm Dexter formed on August 2 off North Carolina and is now moving in the Atlantic with waves expected to create moderate rip current risk along Delaware's coast today. The storm is moving at 12 mph and will pick up pace before slowing on August 6—residents are advised to stay cautious near the water.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware’s Police Diversion Program now teams state troopers with mental health professionals to help people avoid jail by connecting them to treatment for addiction and mental health issues — a model that began in 2021 and has already assisted over 500 Wilmington residents. The program plans to expand services as more people are referred, with nearly 10,000 contacts made and about 2,200 individuals having entered treatment.  WHYY
  • State law sets county rules for fences on property lines—New Castle and Kent Counties require fences to be built back from the line with specific height and ditch rules, while Sussex County allows 4-foot fences. Homeowners whose property is encroached upon may ask a neighbor to move the fence by sending a certified letter or seeking a court order—steps aimed at resolving property disputes.  Delaware Online
