ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ DNREC Environmental Justice Office announced today that it is accepting grant applications for the 2026 Community Environmental Project Fund—offering between $5,000 and $50,000—to support community and non-profit projects until Aug. 31. The program, funded by penalties from environmental law violations under the Pollution Accountability Act, gives preference to projects within 2 miles of a violation and will fund selected projects running from January to December 2026. - ➤ On August 1, the Wilmington Fire Department graduated 36 new Firefighter/EMTs in the largest recruit class in city history. The recruits completed 14 weeks of training at the Chase Bank Conference Center—part of the department's expanded emergency services—and will begin active duty immediately. Delaware LIVE
- ➤ Delaware began legal adult-use cannabis sales today through converted medical marijuana centers now licensed for recreational sales. The state will add more licensees in coming months—this first step under the Marijuana Control Act marks a major milestone—while consumers must purchase only from licensed retailers.
