- ➤ At about 6 p.m. Monday night, a Toyota Highlander in Middletown veered off State Route 301 near the DE-71 overpass, went airborne, and struck a barrier—killing a rear-seat passenger. WDEL
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Wilmington tax preparer, Jady Solano (43), was sentenced Monday to over six years in federal prison for leading a fraud scheme that defrauded more than $9 million in COVID relief funds by filing 62 fraudulent PPP loan applications and keeping nearly $1.4 million (ordered to be repaid) from shell companies. - ➤ DNREC announced that new Trackchairs—accessible all-terrain wheelchairs—will soon allow visitors with disabilities to use trails at five state parks including Cape Henlopen, Killens Pond, Lums Pond, Trap Pond and White Clay Creek. The chairs can be reserved free for three-hour sessions and are part of a broader plan to improve park accessibility. Deleware State Government

- ➤ The Delaware Emergency Management Agency launched the Delaware School Safety Center and a new website that offers training, resources, and crisis tools to help schools safeguard students. The center builds on the state’s 2012 Comprehensive School Safety Program — and will provide Behavioral Threat Assessment training and physical safety assessments to prevent future incidents. - ➤ Today, Governor Meyer announced a partnership between the state and Undue Medical Debt to use $500,000 in state funds to eliminate up to $50 million in medical debt for over 17,000 Delawareans—he also signed legislation to protect tenant rights and remove medical debt from credit reports. - ➤ Delaware lawmakers will convene in Dover on August 12 to discuss relief for residents affected by steep property tax increases from recent reassessments—Speaker Minor-Brown noted proposals will address concerns including school tax rate changes and longer intervals between reassessments—details continue to develop.
