ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Newark man identified as 49-year-old Hector Santiago died after his motorcycle struck a parked vehicle on the 100 block of Stature Drive in the Sherwood Forest community on July 26th at 8:56 p.m.—officers are investigating the crash. First State Update

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Wilmington Police reported that on Saturday afternoon two individuals were shot in the 800 block of Spruce Street at 2:14 p.m.+ a 21-year-old man was shot in the back and a 37-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds, and both were taken to the hospital in stable condition. First State Update

- ➤ Today, The Grand Opera House deepened its legacy by hosting interactive Summer Explorers theater shows for children and launching Summer in the Parks to offer free music, dance, and art events in local neighborhoods. Summer Explorers took place at the baby grand (818 N. Market St.) and Summer in the Parks will run through mid-August in partnership with the city and PNC Arts Alive. Delaware Online
- ➤ Delawareans are voting in a contest to select the state’s Most Famous Delawarean, and the middle rankings now include figures from sports and entertainment. The list ranks people from 21 to 11 with voters choosing NFL quarterback Joe Flacco, actor Judge Reinhold, and Negro League baseball player William Julius Judy Johnson—each tied to the state’s heritage. - ➤ Around 100 seniors gathered at Silverside Church on Saturday morning to protest federal cuts to Medicaid that could affect 41,000 Delawareans—many of whom depend on the program for their care. Organized by Indivisible and Moms Demand Action, the protest was part of a national Families First demonstration and may lead to further community efforts. WHYY
- ➤ Wilmington property owners and mortgage companies received tax bills with new rates of $3.7413 per $1,000 for residential properties and $5.8276 per $1,000 for non-residential properties. The city is working with New Castle County — reviewing last year's reassessment data amid concerns of overvaluation in lower-income areas while tax payments are due Sept 2 and appeals for the July 2026 tax period can be filed by March 14.
