BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new data center near Delaware City is proposed with 11 buildings covering 6 million square feet and using 1.2 gigawatts of electricity to power nearly 1 million homes while creating up to 125 permanent jobs and hundreds more during construction—local leaders held a public meeting on July 24th at the Delaware City Fire Hall and a county councilman will introduce legislation on Aug. 26 to set clear standards for data centers.  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware Shakespeare will perform Twelfth Night, O Lo Que Quieras—a bilingual version of the classic play—at Rockwood Park & Museum in Penny Hill as part of the Summer Festival. The festival runs through Aug. 3 plus features food trucks, vendors and family event nights for local audiences.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Andrew D. Martire, head of The Tatnall School, will step down at the end of the 2025-26 school year to take a job in Maryland—he has led the school since 2020 through major campus upgrades and challenges. The board of trustees has begun choosing a replacement—hoping to keep strong enrollment and athletic success going.  Delaware LIVE

FINANCE NEWS

  • The NCUA has approved a merger that will combine Del-One Federal Credit Union with Louviers Federal Credit Union into one of Delaware's largest credit unions. Louviers members will vote soon and the merger is expected to close in the fall — uniting 16 branches and enhanced digital banking services.  First State Update

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Governor Matt Meyer announced a leadership transition in his Administration as Vanessa Phillips becomes Senior Advisor and Misty Seemans is promoted to Chief of Staff. The governor praised both Phillips and Seemans for their strong service and effective work in government roles.  Deleware State Government
  • Governor Matt Meyer signed a joint resolution to launch an AI Sandbox Program that will let Delaware test new AI tools in areas like healthcare, finance, and biotech—ensuring innovation comes with safeguards. The resolution now moves to the Delaware AI Commission, which will draft legislation for the General Assembly by January 2026.  Deleware State Government
