- ➤ Sussex County Habitat for Humanity recognized Community Bank Delaware for a $200 donation that supported the nonprofit's 200th home dedication & 34th anniversary celebration. The donation marked a milestone for the organization in Lewes. Bay to Bay News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Khar Abdulah, a 49-year-old suspect, was arrested in Philadelphia on July 2 and extradited to Delaware on July 17 after he kidnapped a Wilmington resident on May 21 and threatened him at gunpoint — he now faces multiple felony charges including kidnapping, robbery, burglary, and extortion. - ➤ On July 18, 2012, police responded to a drive-by shooting at 13 Clyde Street in the Belvedere community near Wilmington and found 28-year-old Anthony D. Fitzgerald with gunshot wounds, and he later died on July 30 at Christiana Hospital—investigators are seeking leads on a stolen 1997 dark green Honda Civic and two white male suspects with short blond hair who fled the scene. - ➤ University of Delaware senior and Wilmington native Stephen Maister joined an internship with Project Recover in Chuuk to study World War II plane wrecks—he used underwater mapping techniques to help honor missing servicemen and offer closure to affected families. University of Delaware

- ➤ Gov. Matt Meyer signed six healthcare bills on Monday that include a lactation program for incarcerated individuals, a ban on gas station heroin, expanded support for deaf citizens, lead paint remediation, and a provider protection law that shields practitioners from lawsuits for services legal in Delaware+ while also designating August 31 as International Overdose Awareness Day. Several additional health-related bills, including measures to prevent medical debt from affecting credit scores and to restructure opioid settlement funds, still await his signature.
