GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congress passed a new federal budget law that cuts SNAP by $186 billion and now makes Delaware cover 75% of its costs starting fiscal year 2027 — a change that may force many families to lose food and school meal help. • Some governors, including Delaware’s Matt Meyer, are pushing for more state influence over PJM’s decisions to improve grid reliability and lower rising bills. They plan to review board candidates for transparency and long-term planning—efforts aimed at building a more reliable and cost-effective power system.  WDEL
  • House Bill 187 passed in both legislative chambers and now waits for Gov. Meyer’s signature to allow direct wine shipments with set limits on quantity and fees. Free the Grapes!—a local wine group—warns the bill may restrict consumer choice and favor distributors.  Delaware Online

  • DNREC & experts report that tick bites in Delaware are causing a rise in meat allergy, known as alpha-gal syndrome, after bites from the Lone Star, black-legged and American dog ticks. Residents are urged to use tick repellent & take precautions in wooded or grassy areas where warmer weather helps ticks multiply.  Delaware Online
  • ChristianaCare announced it is exploring a merger with New Jersey’s Virtua Health to form a regional health system that may lessen local control over care. The two not-for-profit groups signed a non-binding letter to start due diligence and seek regulatory approvals — steps that could impact hospital pricing and access.  Spotlight Delaware
