CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Delaware State Police arrested 21-year-old Deonte King from Lincoln in connection with a shooting near the Slaughter Beach Memorial Volunteer Fire Company on June 12th — he surrendered on July 17th after investigators linked a light-colored Honda Accord to the fleeing suspects — and he now faces charges including Assault 1st Degree, ten counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, nine counts of Reckless Endangering 1st Degree, and Conspiracy 2nd Degree. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congress passed a new federal budget law that cuts SNAP by $186 billion and now makes Delaware cover 75% of its costs starting fiscal year 2027 — a change that may force many families to lose food and school meal help. The law also cuts Medicaid by over $1 trillion in 10 years — local leaders warn that new work requirements and extra paperwork could leave thousands without needed benefits. WHYY
- ➤ Some governors, including Delaware’s Matt Meyer, are pushing for more state influence over PJM’s decisions to improve grid reliability and lower rising bills. - ➤ DNREC & experts report that tick bites in Delaware are causing a rise in meat allergy, known as alpha-gal syndrome, after bites from the Lone Star, black-legged and American dog ticks. - ➤ ChristianaCare announced it is exploring a merger with New Jersey’s Virtua Health to form a regional health system that may lessen local control over care.
