ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A study by Bader Scott using NHTSA data from 2018 to 2022 shows nearly one in five of Delaware's 605 fatal crashes occurred on Friday—Wednesdays and Sundays each had 91 fatal incidents while Monday had the fewest. The data also indicate roadway fatalities dropped 28% compared to 2024, and officials urge drivers to stay alert during heavy travel times.  Delaware Online

  • Dogfish Head Craft Brewery marks its 30th anniversary by reviving its first brew, Cherry Pale Ale, made with Delaware wheat, Maine barley, Cascade hops, and cherries to honor founder Sam Calagione’s first homebrew. ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that as of March, Delaware workers earned an average of $32.37 per hour and made $1,052.03 weekly based on a 32.5-hour workweek. The data shows wages lower than New Jersey’s $37.68 rate and higher than Mississippi’s $27.88 rate—figures that outline Delaware’s position compared with other states.  Delaware Online

  • Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced on July 16th that Gilead Sciences settled kickback allegations by agreeing to return $96,571.13 to Delaware Medicaid as part of a broader $202 million deal. The settlement, which addressed claims from January 2011 through November 2017, aimed to curb practices that led to improper billing — a measure to protect state healthcare funds.  Deleware State Government
  • Governor Matt Meyer signed a broad package of energy and environmental legislation on Wednesday to lower utility costs, improve energy reliability, and protect Delaware’s natural resources and wildlife. The 11 bills include reforms in utility rate-setting, customer fund limits, grid transparency, energy storage pilots, low-income utility assistance, and tougher penalties on commercial polluters — as well as measures to name the state’s official migratory bird and dragonfly.  WDEL
  • Delaware 250 awarded nearly $35,000 in grants on July 17th to six local organizations planning projects for the 250th anniversary of US independence—projects that include musical events, exhibits, historic site improvements, and more. The director said the funding supports plans to showcase Delaware's history and invite visitors to the state's cherished sites.  Delaware Public Media
  • State Auditor Lydia York will look into the Appoquinimink School District after its Board of Education increased the local school tax rate by 10% despite previous assurances of no hike. The auditor will conduct a special inquiry — a limited review aimed at a quick resolution — and determine next steps while continuing routine audits.  Delaware LIVE
