ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 24-year-old Wilmington man died after his car ran a stop sign and struck a tree at the intersection of Sudlers Row and Blackiston Church Road in Clayton early Tuesday at about 3:00 a.m.—police said he was speeding and not wearing a seat belt.  WDEL

CRIME NEWS

  • Delaware State Police arrested 66-year-old Gregory Davis of Wilmington for a bank robbery at 10:45 a.m. on August 5 at the M&T Bank on Philadelphia Pike in Claymont — the suspect fled on foot after demanding cash from a teller and was later identified through an extended probe.  First State Update
  • Following weekend shootings, police reported that two more people were hit by gunfire Monday night on July 14 just before 9:30 p.m. near 25th and Market Streets (a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman) remain in stable condition at the hospital.  WDEL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State regulators are investigating the Delaware City Refinery after unpermitted emissions in May released harmful sulfur dioxide and other chemicals, and DNREC Secretary Greg Patterson said penalties will likely be imposed. Officials and residents are urging better air monitoring and more transparency—$250K in matching funds has been set for a new project to track pollution—to hold the refinery accountable for its long history of problems.  Spotlight Delaware

  • Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer signed four bills that limit ICE cooperation and change law enforcement arrest rules after community safety concerns. The law stops local cops from sharing data with ICE—more immigration restrictions may be discussed by lawmakers next year.  WHYY
  • Treasurer Colleen Davis praised the state law signed by Gov. Matt Meyer on July 14 that now requires all state agencies to pay vendors electronically — a change that is expected to prevent fraud and save money. Sponsored by Rep. Josue Ortega and Sen. Trey Paradee, the bill modernizes payment processes and makes Delaware the first to mandate electronic payments for every state vendor.  Deleware State Government
