Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 13th of July.
Good morning, Wilmington.
🏘️ Community
Today a severe storm caused flash floods and power outages, and many Delaware residents now ask who pays when trees fall.
Local guidance says property owners are usually liable for tree damage unless poor maintenance is proven (regular care can help prevent costly repairs).
🎭 Culture
The Delaware Art Museum’s cultural programs manager said the 2020 unrest in Wilmington was a turning point that reshaped her career and the museum’s approach to community engagement.
Her experience continues to influence art programming and community outreach.
🏛️ Government
Delaware lawmakers passed a bill banning pet stores from selling dogs and cats to boost pet adoption from shelters.
The law (which lets pet stores team with rescue groups while licensed breeders still sell animals) will take effect six months after governor approval.
New Castle County is forming a Youth Advisory Council for young people ages 14 to 21 to offer guidance on local youth issues.
Applications are accepted until July 20 on the county website and monthly meetings will follow.
