- ➤ Avelo Airlines finished its busiest six-month period since starting service at Wilmington Airport in early 2023, serving 155,881 passengers by the first half of 2025 — the budget carrier primarily flew to top Florida destinations like Orlando and Fort Myers and will resume additional routes later this year. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ New Castle County police are searching for 22-year-old Shane Brank, a mixed-race male about 5-feet-6 who fled on foot after a shooting in Delaware City Trailer Park on July 7+ residents are urged to call 911 if they see him. Delaware Online
- ➤ Officers responded to a shooting at Delaware City Trailer Park on July 7 at 9:27 a.m.—finding a 39-year-old man who was shot and later died—and they arrested 22-year-old Shane Brank at 1:10 p.m. after witnesses saw him run. First State Update
- ➤ On Monday, July 7, police searched for a person of interest in connection with a fatal shooting at Delaware City Trailer Park and located 22-year-old Shane Brank shortly after 1 p.m.—they also responded to a shooting on the 100 block of 5th Street in Stockdale around 9:30 a.m. where a 39-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and did not survive as detectives continue to investigate. - ➤ New Castle County Police investigated two shootings Monday morning at Delaware City Trailer Park and in the Stockdale community of Claymont and are searching for a 22-year-old person of interest (5-foot, 6-inch, 130 pounds, seen in a black shirt, black pants, and a black beanie) believed to be armed. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Delaware’s Technology Student Association delegation represented the state at the 2025 National TSA Conference in Nashville last week as 160 students from 17 schools competed in over 65 events on biotechnology, cybersecurity, engineering and emerging technologies. The delegation led by Newark Charter Senior High School state officers earned several top ten finishes and received national honors—showing strong support from the Delaware Department of Education. - ➤ DNREC will drop surf fishing reservations for seven drive-on beaches starting Saturday, July 12, so anglers can fish without reserving spots on Key Box, Conquest, Faithful Steward, York, Middle, South, and Beach Plum Island north of Lewes on weekends and holidays. Reservations will still be required for selected beaches at Cape Henlopen and Delaware Seashore State Park as staff monitor capacity and beach conditions—this change follows a two-year review of the program.
