ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 89-year-old New Castle man died when he was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee while trying to cross Pulaski Highway early on July 4 — his broken-down car had been parked on the shoulder near Biddle Avenue and police reported that the driver and passenger were uninjured.  Delaware Online

CRIME NEWS

  • The New Castle County Division of Police issued a Gold Alert for Trinidad Sotelo, a 26-year-old man last seen at 10:45 p.m. on July 4 from the 1000 block of Richfield Road in Newark whose whereabouts remain unknown after he left with an unidentified person; anyone with information should call (302) 573-2800 or 911.  New Castle County Police Department

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Matt Meyer signed off on Senate Bill 153, modernizing the Interagency Resource Management Committee—Lt. Gov. Kyle Evans Gay has been named Chair to build a more coordinated early childhood education system in Delaware. The committee, made up of Cabinet Secretaries and senior agency leaders, will work to expand access to quality programs, grow the workforce and reduce care costs.  WDEL

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • An analysis by *Apartment List* shows that New Castle County apartment rents remained nearly unchanged in June with an average of $1,438 compared to $1,440 in May, as one-bedroom units were listed around $1,229 and two-bedroom units near $1,466.  Delaware Online

  • Appoquinimink's Jahsiear Rogers received the most votes in the Delaware Online preseason poll for best wide receiver in high school football — he beat five other nominees in the free online vote presented by Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists.  Delaware Online
  • On July 4, Delaware Park in Newark hosted the Safari Sprint parade featuring exotic animal races with ostriches, camels, and zebras—Freedom Stance with jockey Daniel Centeno, Martin Chuan with My Ronda, and Otter Creek with Julio Hernandez won the sixth, fifth, and fourth races respectively.  Delaware Online
