CRIME NEWS

  • Delaware State Police arrested 40-year-old Michael Denney from Pennsville after investigating commercial burglaries that occurred between May 29 and June 16 at locations including Auto Team Delaware, Farrar Car Wash, and a Wawa construction site—he is now held on multiple felony counts with a secured bond of $6,100.  First State Update

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SEPTA’s board approved a Fiscal Year 2026 budget that includes fare hikes, service cuts, curfews and a hiring freeze which would end Wilmington-Newark rail service on January 1 if Pennsylvania lawmakers fail to provide new funding. The plan also discontinues special services such as the Sports Express—raising significant concerns about the region’s future transit and mobility.  WDEL
  • Attorney General Kathy Jennings praised the General Assembly today for passing Senate Bill 40 and House Bill 67, laws that give her office stronger tools to protect residents of manufactured home communities and set tougher rules for towing practices — the bills now head to Governor Matt Meyer’s desk for his signature.  Deleware State Government

  • UD Assistant Professor Eric Layland’s study found that over 400 Black, Latinx and Afro-Latinx sexual minority young men who faced frequent racism and heterosexism experienced early, severe anxiety and depression—peaking before easing after age 24—highlighting the need for targeted mental health support during the transition to adulthood.  University of Delaware
